There is a British Car Show at the Galleria Mall (Belk’s side) on Saturda, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. it’s called the “International City British Car Show For Cancer Awareness” and is a fundraiser for cancer awareness. Originally we planned to solely honor Barry Bilbro, MGB-GT owner and long time member of our local British car club, who died last year from cancer. However, as we prepared for the event, other club members were stricken by cancer and so the decision was made to make the show a cancer awareness event honoring all cancer victims. Barry’s wife, Grace, will serve as the judge and pick her favorite car.
There is no admission fee and we antiipate a number of British cars (and some Mini’s, which are no longer British, but that’s another story). I know there will be Triumph TRs, Spitfires, Sunbeams, Jaguars, Minii Coopers and of course MGs. There are some pretty exotic cars in the club that may also make an appearance, we’ll see. There is room for you, even if you didn’t sign up, come on by with your British car and join the fun.
The fundraising part is simply a request for donations at the event, with the proceeds to go to cancer awareness programs in the area. The corporate sponsors are Middle Georgia Orthopaedic, We Care Heating and Air and Croftgate of Georgia (fine car care products). We sure appreciate our corporate sponsors!
Some of the cars will be show quallity cars and some will be daily drivers. My MGB roadster is a driver, meaning it’s got some dings, dents, faded carpet and such because I drive it frequently, but it’s still a great little car. I will also have my MGB-GT there, it needs some body work and a paint job, but it’s got AC and overdrive which makes it pretty unique in Middle Georgia.
I’d like to say “Hi” to you, so come on by anytime, I’d love to tell you about my car.
